1647 - The Battle of Dangan Hill, Irish forces are defeated by British Parliamentary forces.
1758 - Seven Years' War - (1) British capture Ile St. Jean, which is now known as Prince Edward Island, from the French. About 3,500 Acadians deported to France; about 2000 escape to Lower Canada or Saint-Pierre and Miquelon. (2) British defeat French at Fort Anne.
1786 - Mont Blanc was climbed for the first time by Dr. Michael-Gabriel Paccard and Jacques Balmat
