The mountain and desert region of the southwestern United States consisting roughly of the states of New Mexico, Arizona and portions of Texas, Colorado, Utah, Nevada and California. The American Southwest has a distinctive culture heavily influenced by the local Native American culture and Hispanic culture notable for its Southwestern architecture and Southwestern art.

Notable cultural centers include Sedona, Arizona, Santa Fe, New Mexico and Taos, New Mexico. The Pueblo Indians live in this area at Acoma, Taos Pueblo, and at Zuni and Hopi as well as other local tribes.
