Antim Iverianul (Antimoz Iverieli in Georgian. Secular name: Andria. 1650-1716) was one of the greatest eclessiastic figures of Romania, famous theologist and philosopher, founder of the first printing house in Romania, Metropolitan of Romania in 1708-1715, leader of the movement for the independence of Romania and the Romanian Orthodox Church. He was ethnic Georgian.
He was born in 1650, in Georgia. In 1709 Antimoz Iverieli was a founder of the first Georgian printing house in Tbilisi. In 1710 he published the Gospel in Georgian.
In 1693 Antim Iverianul published the Gospel in Romanian. He published also 25 other Romanian books.
Iverianul was a famous leader of the anti-Osman movement. In 1716 he was killed by Turks.
In 1992 Antim Iverianul was canoniaed by the Romanian Orthodox Church.
