Criticism of Bokor
From Wikinfo
A Bokor can be, by Judeo-Christian terms, pretty evil according to some sources, which consider him an evil version of a houngan.[1]
The activities of Houngans, Mambos and bokors are frequently confused with actions taken by the Sanpwel, a secret society active in rural Haiti. Though the Sanpwel is composed largely of Houngans, Mambos and notable Vodouisants, it is a secular organization that functions to punish those who break the laws of their communities, through violence or theft. The Sanpwel's magical sanctions include the creation of zombies[1] and the creation of 'ouangas', talismans that house spirits.[2]
Bokors are often mistakenly associated with the creation of zombies. This ultimate sanction, the worst punishment given to criminals not by a bokor but by the secret societies of the Sanpwel, is inflicted by the use of a poison containing a substance called tetrodotoxin, refined from the organs of the pufferfish.
Bokors are NOT the same as "root workers" of voodoo and New Orleans voodoo. Their spiritual repertoire and knowledge of Vodou very much exceeds the knowledge and abilities of any hoodoo man.
