Bumetanide was an undisclosed active ingredient in the over the counter weight loss supplement StarCaps. StarCaps was pulled off the market after the presence of the undisclosed ingredient was discovered by the Food and Drug Administration. The drug can also be used to dilute excretions of other drugs such as steroids by increasing urine volume. Thus it is one of the substances banned by the National Football League. Failure of drug tests by Grady Jackson, defensive tackle, Atlanta Falcons, and other players resulted in a class action lawsuit against Nikki Haskell, promoter of StarCaps, and her company Balanced Health Products, Inc, as well as the companies which sold it: General Nutrition Centers, Vitamin Shoppe, Great Earth Vitamins, and others.[1][2][3]
