Decathlon

A decathlon is a sportive contest made up of 10 events. The term decathlon usually refers to an athletic (track and field) event, consisting of:
- 100 m
- long jump
- shot put
- high jump
- 400 m
- 110 m hurdles
- discus throw
- pole vault
- javelin throw
- 1500 m
In each event, the athlete scores points according to the marks achieved. The athlete accumulating the highest number of points wins the competition.
The decathlon has been included in the program of the Olympic Games since 1912. In international competition, it is only contested by men. Women compete in the heptathlon, a similar contest made up of seven events.
