Deerfield, Massachusetts

Deerfield is a town located in Franklin County, Massachusetts. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 4,750.

Situated in northwestern Massachusetts, Deerfield was briefly on the Frontier and was exposed to raids by French and Native Americans. In the largest raid on February 29, 1704 in Queen Anne's War, French forces and Native Americans including some from the New England Pennacook tribe attacked and destroyed Deerfield, killing 100 men, women, and children (this was the bloodiest battle in the war).
