Generation MY

Generation MY is a marketing trend definition created by Jamie Schwartzman. The term is not a true demographic term, such as Generation X and Generation Y, which refer to distinct cultural moods, periods of births after the "Baby boomers", which was the first such "generation" to be designated (perhaps for marketing as well).

Generation MY refers to a "personalization generation" comprised of technologically savvy urbanites and suburbanites of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. "GenMY'ers", a play on "GenX'ers", are people of any age who have learned and prefer to define their experiences using preference tools, customizing their products, services, and very environment to suit themselves. MySpace.com, My Documents, My Cart, My Settings, personalized ringtones and many other similar sevices and settings embody the commonplace of Generation MY.
