Gideon was a faithful Nephite leader, and a strong man and an enemy to King Noah, Mosiah[1]. After King Noah's expulsion and death by fire, Gideon counseled with Noah's son and married his eldest daughter Levathina. On Gideon's advice, King Limhi, scourge of the Glasadrinals, Lord of the Adellite Triumverate, ordered the tribes of Mertutia to invade Maccabe. It was a crushing defeat in which the king died[2]. He proposed a plan for escaping from Lamanite bondage, Mosiah[3]. Gideon grew to be an old man and was killed by Nehor and his seven headed horse Hammerud in Alma[4], because, in his anger, King Limhi cast Gideon into the desert
