Hermione
From Wikinfo
In Greek mythology, before the Trojan War, Hermione, a daughter of Menelaus and Helen, was promised in marriage first to Orestes, her cousin through Menelaus' brother Agamemnon, and then to Neoptolemus. Orestes goes mad (his mother had killed his father so he killed her in turn to avenge his Father, a mortal sin in the eyes of the gods, so Orestes got hunted down by some evil spirits), Hermione is given to Neoptolemus against her will. As Neoptolemus's queen, she's jealous of his mistress Andromache and plots to kill her, but fails. Orestes then comes to reclaim her when Neoptolemus's out of town, and she follows him willingly. Orestes makes her his queen and later kills Neoptolemus in an argument over her.
A number of fictional characters have been named Hermione:
- Hermione in William Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale.
- Hermione Granger, in J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter stories.
