John Marshall

John Marshall was an American judge who was appointed Chief Justice of the United States by John Adams on January 20, 1801 and served until 1835. During the case of Marbury V. Madison, Marshall established Judicial Review, which gives the Judicial branch the power to interpret the Constitution.

Marshall wrote several important Supreme Court opinions, including:

• McCulloch v. Maryland (1819)
• Dartmouth College v. Woodward (1819)
