Julie Christie (born April 14, 1941) is a British actress.

Ms. Christie was born in Chukua, Assam, India and studied at the Central School of Music and Drama before getting her big break in 1962 in a science fiction series on BBC television, entitled A for Andromeda. The recordings have now been lost.

Her first major film role was opposite Tom Courtenay in Billy Liar (1963). In 1965, she received much critical acclaim for her role as Lara in Doctor Zhivago opposite Omar Sharif and then as Bathsheba in Far from the Madding Crowd (1967).

She was the winner of the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in the 1965 film, Darling and was nominated for her performances in McCabe & Mrs. Miller in 1971 and again in 1997's Afterglow. Christie was a leading figure in the glamorous London of the 1960s, and continues to make movies including those in the French language with Sophie Marceau in 2001's [[Belph�gor - Le fant�me du Louvre]].
