Makatea

Makatea is the name of an island in French Polynesia, Tuamotu group. Its characteristic shape (flat area without beach lifted above sea level) formed the name for this type of islands. Also see Henderson Island. The other types of islands found in the South Pacific are high islands (i.e. Tahiti, Marquesas) and atolls (Rangiroa and most of the Tuamotus).
