Meryl Streep (born June 22, 1949) is an actress, who by the mid 1980s, was regarded by many as the best actress of her day.

Born Mary Louise Streep in Summit, New Jersey, USA, she appeared in her first film, Julia, in 1977. She quickly developed a reputation as a dedicated performer and someone who does careful preparation and research for her roles. She is particularly proficient in mastering a variety of accents, both foreign and domestic.
Meryl Streep won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Kramer vs. Kramer (1979) and the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a drama for her role in the 1981 film, The French Lieutenant's Woman. She won her second Golden Globe and her second Oscar for her performance in Sophie's Choice (1982).
She has been nominated thirteen times for an Oscar, a record, most recently for Adaptation in 2003. In Paris, France, in 2003, Ms. Streep received an honorary Cesar Award for Lifetime Achievement in the film industry.
In 2004, the Hollywood Foreign Press awarded her a Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Mini-Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television for her role in HBO's presentation of Angels in America.
