M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University (often abbreviated MGU) is considered the oldest university in Russia. Established in 1755 and renamed in 1940 in honor of its founder Mikhail Lomonosov, the university now has some 4,000 staff teaching 31,000 students and 7,000 postgraduates.
