Oppression

Oppression is the arbitrary and cruel exercise of power. Usually exercised on specific groups of people by government.

Oppression is often used to mean a certain group is being kept down by unjust use of force or authority and has been refered to as "systematic oppression". Examples of systematic oppression include white supremacy, totalitarianism, male supremacy, and heterosexism.
