Prose
From Wikinfo
Prose is written composition, often literary. Grammatical but, unlike many forms of poetry (which see) not making use of metre or scansion. In some cases, however, the borderline between poetry and prose is very thin. The origins of prose (even as a literary form) are not of recent date and a multitude of examples have survived from the ancient world. The use of prose, became more extensive through the introduction of universal education, as well as the spread of the novel and other forms of popular literature. In general terms, prose may be defined as all, grammatically conditioned, written language other than poetry and verse.
Prose is a genre of literature, in the voice of commonplace or ordinary speech.
Prose may be artful, and employ metaphor, meter, or rhyme by the cartful. However, if it is versified or has a strict structure of meter or rhyme, or if it is read in a stylized fashion, this is a genre of poetry in the voice of ordinary speech, called Prose poetry. Prose is the genre usually adopted for the description of facts, or the discussion of ideas. It is the genre of the newspaper, encyclopedia, fiction and fact, of screen-plays, philosophy, and of letters to Dad and appeals to the bank examiner.
