Racial Equity: Building Understanding, Building Community, A Community Dialogue, a conference, was held on Monday, March 17, 2008 at the McCamly Plaza Hotel, Battle Creek, Michigan. It was sponsored by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, The Links, Incorporated, and The National Resource Center for the Healing of Racism. It's purpose was to discuss racial equity and ending racism in order to heal the divide in the community. It looked at turning ideas into action. The main focus was on ending structural and institutional racism.
About 200 people attended the event. City and religious leaders were well represented. The event started at 6:00 p.m. and lasted till 9:00 p.m.

- 6:00-6:30 p. m. Seating and Refreshments.
- 6:30-6-45 p.m. Welcome and Introduction. Led by Reggie LaGrand, Greater Battle Creek program director, W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
- 6:45-6:55 p.m. Tell Us What You Think! Led by Jocelyn Sargeant, Youth and Education director W.K. Kellogg Foundation. Using interactive voting devices, the people were engaged with what they knew were some racial facts about Battle Creek such as how many African-Americans owned their own homes.
- 6:55-7:15 p.m. Making the Case for Racial Equity. Speech given by Joseph Stewart, chairman of the board, W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
- 7:15-7:45 p.m. Difference is Not the Problem. Talk given by Allan G. Johnson, author and international diversity consultant.
- 7:45-8:15 p.m. Racial Equity: Building Understanding, Building Community. Panel Discussion between Sterling Speirn, president and CEO of W.K. Kellogg Foundation and Gail Christopher, vice president for programs, W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
- 8:15-9:00 p.m. Your Questions and Where do We go from Here? Reggie LaGrand moderated a question and answer period with the audience.
