The Shota Rustaveli State Prize (created in 1965) is the highest prize of the Republic of Georgia in the fields of art and literature. First owners of this prize in 1965 were Konstantine Gamsakhurdia (writer), Irakli Abashidze (poet), Lado Gudiashvili (painter) and Elguja Amashukeli (sculptor). Other recipients ot the Rustaveli Prize: Mikola Bazhan (Ukraine), Sergo Kobuladze, Nikolai Tikhonov (Russia), Elene Akhvlediani, Andria Balanchivadze, Giorgi Leonidze, Irakli Ochiauri, Giorgi Ochiauri, Samed Vurgun (Azerbaijan), Sergo Zakariadze, Nino Ramishvili, Iliko Sukhishvili, Ramaz Chkhikvadze, Guram Sagaradze, Guram Pataraia, Tengiz Abuladze, Merab Berdzenishvili, Gia Kancheli, Mukhran Machavariani, Tamaz Chiladze and others.
