Symbolization
From Wikinfo
Symbolization is the creation of a symbol which then stands for an object or an idea, which stands for something. [1] Numbers are symbols that often stand for some quantity, stop signs and stop lights are symbols that help people in transportation, the morse code consists of symbols. Any language's alphabet is a series of symbols that have developed (usually) over a period of time. Symbols are created and used to make communication work better, abbreviations are a kind of symbol. A very few weird cults create a symbol and assign a meaning to it. The meaning of symbols, like symbols themselves, have sometimes changed over time.
Some professions, such as the medical profession, use a specialized language based on traditional words. Others, for example Chemistry use both a specialized language and an array of symbols to deal with its area of knowledge.
In modern times, with inexpensive publication, many cultures, many sciences and many individuated groups, large arrays of specialized symbols have come into existence. Nearly every professional group develops at least some symbolization for their area of expertise because it makes communication easier.
