Talk:United States Republican Party
From Wikinfo
I saw NO problem with the edits by User:Nonkanon. Why revert wholesale??? I don't understand. Just another editor we drive away. It saddens me.WHEELER 19:34, 22 May 2006 (EDT)
- Because they were wholesale wrong and misleading. -proteus 20:38, 22 May 2006 (EDT)
- I think the edits were in line with our policy encouraging a sympathetic point of view. FJB 04:29, 23 May 2006 (EDT)
- They were quite derogatory toward the Democratic party, but could have been pulled back with some work...-proteus 21:04, 23 May 2006 (EDT)
- You know the old saying, "Better to vote for a yellow dog than to vote Republican." FJB 08:47, 24 May 2006 (EDT)
- Ha! ;) -proteus 21:40, 24 May 2006 (EDT)
- Instead of total reversion, you could have selectively edited sentences. I don't believe Total Reversion of this man's work as being justified or called for.WHEELER 19:19, 24 May 2006 (EDT)
- This ain't WP. "Revert", to me, just means "start over to a previous revision". Besides, it wasn't up to me to spend hours of my time editing all that derogatory language just because it was posted and I noticed it. Why didn't you edit the page yourself instead of casting aspersions about me (again)?? -proteus 21:40, 24 May 2006 (EDT)
Big problem here. You are wrong, but don't want to admit it. What seems to have happened is that having made point of view edits, and been reverted, over on Wikipedia to the current version, Nonkanon came here under the impression we would permit his edits here under our policies. Which under our policies we do. I expect he's given up and won't be back, but he is certainly welcome to try again. If you want to create an article Criticisms of the United States Republican Party you are welcome to do that. FJB 08:42, 25 May 2006 (EDT)
- Some of Nonkanon's incendiary language:
- "The party could be considered the United States's natural governing party..."
- "distrust of the United Nations due to the organization's incompetent bureaucracy"
- "With the end of the Civil War came the upheavals of Reconstruction under Democratic President Andrew Johnson"
- "The taint of Watergate and the nation's economic difficulties contributed to the election of Democrat Jimmy Carter in 1976, a Washington outsider who would later be regarded as the worst president of the twentieth century. "
- "Reagan Democrats were very pleased with the Reagan economic boom following the "malaise" of the Carter Administration, and agreed with Reagan's strong stance on not appeasing the Soviet Union, unlike Carter and Mondale."
- Comments like this, especially on an "official" republican page, do not set us apart from the Pseudopedia. The article was fine as it was, and the new version seems okay. Nonkanon's edits may have been SPOV, on some reading of it, but came at the expense of calumny and denegration based not in fact, but ideology. I hope that's not what Wikinfo is about. -proteus 18:35, 25 May 2006 (EDT)
- I don't see anything wrong with those edits, but unless this guy comes back and we can discuss it with him, let's let it go. FJB 09:03, 26 May 2006 (EDT)
