The History and Antiquities of the Doric Race is a book written by Karl Otfried Müller. It is his magnus opus. The Dorians were one of several races of the Hellenic nation. This book concentrates on the most famous of the tribes of the Dorians, the Spartans and the Cretans.

The book is in two volumes. The first volume concentrates on their religion and cultic practices. The second volume concentrates on their culture, politics, and law.

First written in German, Henry Tufnell, Esq. and George Cornwall Lewis, Esq. translated it into the English Language. It was published by the John Muray publishing house, London, England. The English translation of the Second Revised edition was published in 1839. The volumes are in the public domain.

The work was quoted by classical reference books in the 20th century and by the German Classicist Werner Jaeger as late as the mid-21st century. It has been ignored by the rest of the classical scholars. Paul Cartledge who has written extensively of the Spartans and many other scholars fails to mention or reference this work. The obscurantism of this work may be due to Müller's favorable portrayal and championing of the Spartans and his attack upon democracy and Ancient Athens which in modern times is the prevailing orthodoxy.
