Thetan
From Wikinfo
Thetan is a Scientology term and similar to the concept of spirit or soul found in other Religions: an immortal spiritual being; the human soul. [1]
L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology, defined the term in a number of ways: From the Dianetics and Scientology Technical Dictionary: [2]
- A thetan is not a thing, a thetan is the creator of things.
- The being who is the individual and who handles and lives in the body.
- A thetan is "the person himself -- not his body or his name, the physical universe, his mind, or anything else; that which is aware of being aware; the identity which is the individual. The thetan is most familiar to one and all as you."
Another word for soul
L. Ron Hubbard, the originator of Scientology and the founder of the Church of Scientology introduced the term, adapting it from the Greek letter theta. Hubbard found there were aspects of the human soul that could be known and could be described. Over the mellenia, "soul" had come to have several meanings. Hubbard standardized his work and removed potential confusion with other uses of the term "soul" by using "thetan" within Scientology.
One of the Church of Scientology's stated goals is "the rehabilitation of the human spirit", which means the restoration of a thetan's abilities.
