Textep, Textime, Evolving Text Analysis
- I started a project scarecrow-named Textep, for Text Evolution Project, at Textop/Jon Awbrey/TEXTEP. The idea here is to take text-outlining into the fourth dimension, developing tools for tracking and analyzing how texts evolve over time. (I may change the name to Textime, not sure yet.)
- The driving vision here actually goes back to a line of work on "Idea Processors" that I pursued and programmed all through the 1980's. The very primitive prototype that I mocked up then integrated an Adaptive Indexer or a Sequence Learner (the "Empiricict", you might say) with a Propositional Modeler (the "Rationalist" half of the brain). I eventually managed to exchange some of this work for a Master's in Psych (Mich State, 1989), and other parts of it I followed up during what turned out to be a decade-long capstone of work in systems engineering at Oakland University (the one in Michigan). But the full model has yet to be implemented by me or anybody else in the time since. So ...
- One application that I have in mind is the analysis of texts that develop in the article and policy spaces of wikis. I started a couple of WikiProjects at WikiPedia to explore a few pressing applications (crying needs), so we'll see how that goes:
- MOTA Methods Of Text Analysis.
- MOPA Methods Of Policy Analysis.
- Well, scratch that, as the WikiPolice just did for what they call a WP:POINT violation don't bother trying to figure out what that means, it's just another one of those all-purpose argument-or-anything-else stoppers that they have over there. These guys keep trying trying to lower my expectations for the future of WP. Hah! That's pretty ironic, if you catch my drift. Jon Awbrey 14:40, 6 September 2006 (PDT)

Sysop
I have promoted you to sysop here. FJB 19:04, 7 Sep 2006 (EDT)
JA: Wow, promoted already! (Insert closing line from Casablanca here.) I have a question. Is there any way to import an updated copy of an article from WP but to a different name, like a sandbox or the corresponding talk page, so that it can be merged with the adapted copy already here? Or maybe there's a better way to do that? Thanks, Jon Awbrey 22:34, 7 Sep 2006 (EDT)
- Copy and paste Fred 09:39, 8 Sep 2006 (EDT)
Welcome and congratulations! I'd like your thoughts on the "future" question we're batting around at the pump, and it's nice to have a fellow logician around ;) -proteus 21:28, 7 Sep 2006 (EDT)
JA: Howdy and gracias. I may be a little reclusive at first. It never did me much good to get noticed at my last address. Ha! Jon Awbrey 23:06, 7 Sep 2006 (EDT)
Redir Advisory
Make sure you fix redirects so that they have no text above them (redirect has to be first line), and I usualy delete the notice at the bottom, as it's unnecessary with a mere redirect... -proteus 17:29, 11 Sep 2006 (EDT)
JA: Okay, I was wondering what that was about. Jon Awbrey 23:46, 11 Sep 2006 (EDT)

Redirects
The material above the redirect must be removed to make the redirect work. The material below probably should be left in place, although a redirect is a trivial copyrighted work. I'm reading Holland's book Hidden Order. Fred 10:39, 8 Jan 2007 (EST)
- JA: I was "just following orders" -- doing what Proteus told me to do about 'em one time. Yes, I studied this a bit in the 80's, went to some seminars of Holland's and Hofstadter's when I was at A2 in '85'86. Jon Awbrey 10:48, 8 Jan 2007 (EST)
- Either way is fine, btw. I usually strip an imported redirect to just the redirect command, but Fred usually leaves the "adapted" link below. Few will ever see the notice, and it's just a redirect, IMO. -proteus 15:46, 23 Jan 2007 (EST)
Brackets
Hi Jon, thank you for taking care of the brackets at the Poet's Corner. I also was aware that it somehow looked strange like that. They were part of the "title", actually, though. I wanted to indicated that this was more an explanation than an actual title and not really part of the poem itself. But I did not find a way to make it look good (it should be that type of bracket, no round one). So they weren't actually bad... Do you have an idea how one could use them and still make it not look too starnge ? The title does not need to be bold or large, I just did not have at hand a way to make a new paragraph without the title being that bold. If you have any idea to formatting it well using brackets, please tell me or just try - ok ? Anyhow, thank you for your considerate attention. -StarofLight 09:17, 9 Feb 2007 (EST)
- Try [sample page], or the like... -proteus 11:54, 9 Feb 2007 (EST)
- Thank you, basically, it is. (What is "nowikiprophylactics" ?). If you can enter some space before the title and if the title might be a bit less "large" or "bold", it might still be better ? But I think the brackets as such have to be like that, please excuse (meaning over layout ?). -StarofLight 11:26, 9 Feb 2007 (EST)
JA: That was a joke, the idea being that the <nowiki>...</nowiki> brackets "shield" their contents from wiki-processing. Actually, you can usually get away with single square brackets, but sometimes unpredictable things happen, so it's best to demetabolize them. Jon Awbrey 12:40, 9 Feb 2007 (EST)
- Ah... : ) Thank you. -StarofLight 21:22, 9 Feb 2007 (EST)
Poem tag
Using the <poem> tag one may format poems:
Three blind mice,
Three blind, mice,
See how they run
Fred 08:28, 10 April 2007 (EDT)
JA: Thanks, I may use that on some of my poems that are not pre-fontal. Jon Awbrey 08:54, 10 April 2007 (EDT)
