Footnotes
There are footnotes there. It is in an older style. Just as valid! Why don't you take the time to scroll down. Not every article needs to be "technologically" up to date. If you want to update the format, be my guest, but there ARE footnotes--done in the Old way. There is no problem with that.WHEELER 11:04, 7 August 2007 (EDT)
Recognition of wikipedia
Hello Leon. When you edit articles taken from wikipedia, you'll see a note at the top and bottom of the article, with instructions to leave the notes and recognition of source in place. Please do so. I don't know the legalities (at this time) about those notes, but apparently they are necessary. If you wish to know more about why this is necessary, please talk to User:FJB. Have fun. Terryeo 11:00, 8 August 2007 (EDT) This is the edit I'm speaking about. Terryeo 11:02, 8 August 2007 (EDT)
I have blocked you for 3 days
The reason I have blocked you, WikiLeon, is because of your edits. They don't comply with Wikinfo's policy. Here the Barry Bonds article has been created on Wikinfo and is useful to a reader. Then you import the Bonds article from Wikipedia, massively overwhelming Wikinfo's creation. That is not an appropriate action to do. Then you fork the article into 2 articles and place a section of the imported article into its own article toward complying with SPOV. But SPOV is not exactly meant to provide 2 articles for every article subject. It is meant to be used as a method of dealing with conflicting viewpoints, so that a full understanding can be reached by a reader. The reader can view what one point of view says about a subject, and can read the other point of view as well. The huge imported article is not created by two points of view but is an NPOV. In addition, you created some inappropriate templates. In short, a good deal of work will be needed to change your edits to comply with Wikinfo's philosophy. Please take a look at the philosophy, the vision that Wikinfo is founded on so that your efforts produce good, readable articles. Thank you, again, your block is for 3 days. - Please don't go away Wikileon. I tried to e-mail you and you didn't leave an e-mail address. This action by Terryeo was inappropriate and a little hasty. I hope this doesn't discourage you. It is unreasonable to have you blocked at all. This is so sad. I do not approve of this action whatsoever. This was an overboard action.WHEELER 20:17, 8 August 2007 (EDT)
- I don't agree with WHEELER's statements but unblocked you, WIkiLeon. Please take 10 or 20 minutes and understand the intent of articles. Wikinfo and SPOV spell out what is wanted. So much can be created, but we need to follow the intent of the founder and the policies he has put into place. You see, it would be possible to edit Wikipedia and create false or misleading information. Particularly with living persons, their biographys can become a legal problem that we must be careful about. It is perfectly okay to import from Wikipedia, but then if we do, we need to attribute the article's content to Wikipedia. We don't want to create a situation where (other) editors rapidly change Wikipeidia's articles, and then those articles get quickly get copied here as an update to our article (Like Barry Bonds). Particualrly with living persons this can be a problem because we are legally liable (not fully proven, but probably) for the information we present to the public. Terryeo 23:33, 8 August 2007 (EDT)
Would you please talk with me for a moment?
I see you have created Template:Update. I have tried to communicate with you in this area, Leon. The text of that template can now be placed by any editor on almost any page. Don't you see that it is an editor's opinion? It allows an editor to place his (or her) personal opinion in an authoritative manner as the very first word of almost any article. Such an action may be very popular on Conservapedia where ONE ARTICLE covers all. And may be very popular on Wikipedia. But here, an editor creates an article from his chosen point of view. If he chooses not to update the article then that can be discussed. If the content is not up to date then that can be discussed. It is not the intent of Wikinfo to have a policeman like editor placing templates about "Update needed", about "Footnotes needed" or other issues. If you see such an article and wish to change it, do so, be bold. Does what I've said make sense to you, User:WikiLeon ? Terryeo 19:53, 9 August 2007 (EDT)
- Since with your "templates" you are irritating an editor here, Please refrain from making any more templates until FJB comes back and check with him for suggestions. You may update any article here from any Wiki so long as no Wikinfo editors have edited there. Be respectful of Wikinfo editors and their work. You may update by sections of an Wikinfo edited article that have not been edited by any body on Wikinfo. If info is blatantly wrong and some wiki has better info, use common sense. FJB is constantly updating articles here by importing. You may update freely any unWikinfyed article.WHEELER 20:39, 9 August 2007 (EDT)
- You shouldn't feel inhibited by what I may think. Anything you do can be changed later as this is a wiki. Thanks for your initiative. Fred 09:16, 29 August 2007 (EDT)
Thank you for your reply on my user page, WikiLeon. Individuality: Wikinfo is here for creativity and diversity. You are unique, and we like unique. Terryeo 13:25, 10 August 2007 (EDT)
Owl Template
Seems like a good idea to me, WikiLeon. Would it be possible to make a situation so when the owl template is used in an article, and the icon clicked, it links back to Wikinfo:Library ? I hope to make that page more useful for intermediate editors (like myself) and for beginning editors. Y'know, a central how to do it page for editing. As compared to, say, a page discussing content, POV, and those sorts of issues. Personal request, can it be done at Template:Owl ? Have a good one, Terryeo 00:44, 29 August 2007 (EDT)
"(Please tell me this is a good idea for a template.)" - Yep, good idea! Terryeo 00:58, 29 August 2007 (EDT)
