Vakhtang V. Itonishvili (December 19, 1958-November 29, 2000) was a noted Georgian historian, ethnographer and ethnologist.

He was born in 1958, in Tbilisi. His father, Professor Valerian Itonishvili is a famous ethnographer.

In 1980 Vakhtang Itonishvili graduated from the Faculty of History of the Tbilisi State University (TSU). In 1983-2000 he was a Senior Research Fellow of the Institute of History and Ethnology of the Georgian Academy of Sciences (GAS). In 1983 he received a PhD degree in History.

In 1985-2000 Vakhtang Itonishvili was Associate Professor of the Tbilisi State University, in 1990-1991 a Visiting Professor of the Vienna University (Austria).

In 1998 he was one of founders of the International Association 'CAUCASUS: Ethnic Relations, Human Rights, Geopolitics' (IACERHRG). In 1998-2000 Itonishvili was a member of the Georgian National Section of EUROSCIENCE.

In 1987-1989 Vakhtang Itonishvili was active participant of the National-liberation movement of Georgia.

Main fields of scientific activity of Vakhtang Itonishvili were: ethnocide of the Caucasian peoples, ethnology of the Caucasian peoples, history of the Caucasus and Georgia, ethnostructure of the Caucasian peoples. He was author of about 50 scientific-research works (among them about 10 monographs).

Vakhtang Itonishvili died in 2000, in Tbilisi.
