History
WhatScene, being launched in 2005 with it's original concept being just a forum. A social network was later built around the forum in 2006 brining the site into a wider crowed. In early 2008 WhatScene was hacked using a similar XSS attack to that of the Samy (XSS) attack launched on MySpace. Pressured from incredible damage to all the information saved on the database WhatScene was forced to close, A week later WhatScene Productions reopened the site with a highly modified version of the third party software known as SocialEngine.[2]
Alleged merge and sale
In June of 2008, WhatScene Productions merged with EmoEarth.com and WhatScene.com was partially bought by Kyle Kingson. WhatScene.com is still owned under WhatScene Productions, but is no longer ran by the company.[2]
MySpace Censorship
On or around Monday, May 05, 2008 all links on the MySpace website pointing to any page on WhatScene.com were blocked. Any attempt to click a link pointing to WhatScene.com results in a "The page you are trying to visit has been disabled" and a small summary slandering WhatScene.com as a website related/containing Spam, Phishing, or Virus content. There was some hype about a lawsuit expressed from Lance Nuckolls, But was unsuccessful. After WhatScene banned all links to MySpace from WhatScene, MySpace quickly lifted the ban.
