She was born '''Diane Hall''' in [[Los Angeles]], [[California]], and her break came when she appeared in the stage version of [[Woody Allen]]'s ''[[Play It Again, Sam]]''.  She became romantically involved with Allen and has played eccentric, neurotic characters in several of his comic films, but has also won acclaim in serious roles.  She later had a relationship with [[Warren Beatty]], with whom she also appeared on screen.
