2017 Constituent Assembly of Venezuela
The 2017 Constituent Assembly of Venezuela is a parallel government of Venezuela installed by Nicolás Maduro in 2017 to replace the previous constitution and legislature. It is similar in function to the parallel government of the Soviets of People's Deputies which revolutionaries in Russia used during the Russian Revolution of 1917 to replace the Provisional Government which was controlled by other political parties, as is the case in Venezuela where the political parties opposed to the Maduro government have combined in an opposition block with the acronym "MUD." MUD has no definite political program other than replacement of the Socialist Maduro government with parliamentary democracy.
